Department of Pathology

Inception of the department was in the year 2011. The department has diagnostic and teaching responsibilities. The diagnostic responsibility of the department caters to the patient needs from Srinivas hospital and other private hospitals located in and around Mukka by serving as a referral centre. It is well equipped for both undergraduate and Postgraduate training, comprising of histopathology, cytopathology, hematology, clinical pathology sections and Blood bank.

The department is involved in teaching basic Pathology for medical dental and paramedical students.

The faculty members regularly upgrade their knowledge by attending state and national conferences.

Department faculty are constantly encouraging students to take part in scientific studies and guide them to publish the same in various national and international scientific meet.

Pathology department is providing holistic patient care by indulging in regular clinicopathological meets in collaboration with other clinical departments.

Special investigations like immunohistochemistry , immunofluroscense, and frozen sections are also provided by the department. Department has a state-of-the-art, air conditioned diagnostic lab, situated in the hospital, which renders its services 24×7. Well equipped with automated machines, high quality diagnostic microscopes and sophisticated penta headed demonstration microscope.

Hematology section is equipped with latest hematology analyser and has facility for diagnosing various haematological diseases including facility for haemolytic workup, coagulation studies and bone marrow study.

Histopathology Lab has automated tissue processer, microtomes, higher end microscopes, aided by fluorescent, phase contrast and polarizing options. It has facility for frozen section with higher end cryostat machine.

Cytology department is providing both exfoliative and aspiration cytological dignosis with facility for image guided aspiration.

Licenced blood bank is functioning 24×7 with component separation facility and caters blood to the Srinivas hospital and other hospitals located in and around Mangalore.

The pathology department in the college section has two spacious, well lit and well equipped practical halls, research lab, demonstration room and museum. The museum has more than 500 specimens along with charts and models helping to understand the morphology of the disease better. Departmental Library has collections of more than 125 reference books and journals for both undergraduates and post graduate teaching. Research lab in the college is equipped with photomicrograpic facility, cytochemistry and Immunohistochemistry sections. Abundance of learning material, in the form of specimens, slides, charts, books, teaching aids like, demonstration microscopes, digital photography, LCD projectors make learning easy. Experienced, enthusiastic teaching faculties of the department, provide an interesting and friendly learning atmosphere for the students.
