The Department aims at introducing the science of Dental Biomaterials to students with little or no background in Dental or Engineering science and facilitates the study of physical and chemical properties related to selection and use of these materials.

This subject also helps to identify the characteristics of materials that affect tissue compatibility and general biological safety with manipulation and handling techniques.

The course work spreads over a period of two years inclusive of theory and practical sessions with add on projects culminating in a final university examination held at the end of second year.

The subject attempts to provide dental students with certain criteria for selection, thereby enabling them to discriminate between facts and fictions related to material science.
