Dental Screening Camp at Govindasa Degree College, Surathkal

A dental screening camp was organized at Govindasa Degree College, Surathkal by Dept. of Public health Dentistry, Srinivas institute of Dental Sciences, Mukka from 3/10/2016 to 6/10/2016. The aim of the dental camp was:

1. Sign a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) between Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences, Mukka and Govindasa Degree College, Surathkal.

2. To screen and identify students with dental caries, periodontitis and malocclusion.

A landmark in the history of Srinivas institute of Dental Sciences was achieved with the support of our beloved Dean Prof. Dr.Manoj Varma who signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Govindasa Degree College, Surathkal represented by Dr. Muralidhar Rao who is also the Dean of the institute. The MoU was signed at inaugural function hosted for the occasion. The MoU highlighted mutual understanding between the two institutes with respect to screening, providing appropriate dental treatment and providing oral health education. Those needing treatment will be referred to and treated at Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences with utmost care.

A total of 720 students were screened over a period of 4 days. Those having dental diseases were referred to Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences, Mukka for appropriate treatment. Oral health education was given to all the students including the faculties. The Dean of the Govindasa Degree College also graced the occasion and commended the activity and pro-service nature of the dental college in ushering good quality treatment within minimal time.

Another highlight of the occasion was the setting up of 'Dental Exhibition' in the premises of Govindasa Degree College. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Dean of two institutions. The purpose was to provide a list of dental diseases like dental cares, periodontitis, malocclusion and oral cancer. Models signifying the ill-effects of tobacco, and mobile dental van were also displayed which gives insight into the world of dentistry. The models were made by the students of Srinivas Institute of Dental Science as a part of their project.
