REPORT ON NATIONAL cGMP DAY
Srinivas College of Pharmacy, Mangalore in association with Indian Pharmaceutical association, D.K. District, Local Branch, Mangalore and Indian Drug Manufacturing Association, Mumbai has organised National cGMP day on 10th October 2023. Dr. A.R.Shabaraya, Principal, Srinivas College of Pharmacy and President, IPA, Local branch, D.K District, Mangalore highlighted the importance of current good manufacturing practices and expressed concern over India�s pharmaceutical and regulatory scrutiny due to multiple reports of poor-quality cough syrups causing harm to consumers, especially children, in importing countries. These incidents have not only compromised quality of pharmaceutical formulations but have also raised concern about patients safety worldwide. So the Indian government, in collaboration with the Indian Drugs Manufacturers� Association (IDMA), is set to observe the first-ever National Current Good Manufacturing Practice Day (cGMP Day) on 10th October. This initiative aims to underscore the importance of adhering to cGMP guidelines in pharmaceutical manufacturing, with a focus on improving product quality by regulating various aspects of the manufacturing process, including materials, methods, machinery, processes, personnel, facilities, and environmental conditions and ensuring patient safety.Dr. Krishnananda Kamath, Professor, Dept. of Pharmaceutics gave a talk on Current Status of Indian Pharmaceutical Industry� and virtual tour to cGMP facilities.More than 300 pharmacy students attended the programme. Dr. Viresh K Chandur, Associate Professor proposed Vote of thanks. Dr. Padmavathi P Prabhu and Ms. Christy Chacko anchored and moderated the programme.
