WORLD WATER DAY 2016 AT SSE MUKKA MANGALURU

World Water Day 2016 was celebrated by the Dept. of Civil Engineering and SRISTICA at Srinivas School of Engineering Mukka, Mangaluru on 22ndMarch 2016. Renowned Rainwater Harvesting expert, columnist, well known as “Rain Man of India”, eminent writer “Shree Padre” inaugurated World Water Day-2016 by lighting the lamp. Dr. Shreeprakash B, Principal of the College presided over the function. Dr. Ramakrishna Hegde (Vice Principal and HOD, Dept. of Civil Engg), Ms. Umadevi C V (Faculty Coordinator-SRISTICA), Dr. Nagaraja and Mr. Shrinath Rao K (Faculty Adviser-SRISTICA), and Mr. Abhilash Shetty (Student President-SRISTICA) were present on this occasion.

Ms. Umadevi C V introduced the Chief Guest of the function Shree Padre to the gathering.

In his key note address, Dr. Ramakrishna Hegde briefed the importance of celebration of World Water Day and the responsibilities of younger generation in protecting water sources.

inaugural address, Shree Padre congratulated the college management and the Dept. of Civil Engineering for organising World Water Day 2016 with the aim of addressing problems related to fresh water sources, and to create awareness among the youth to preserve water for the future. Shree Padre highlighted the problem with availability of drinking water in DK, Udupi and Kasaragod districts especially in the month of March, April and May. Shree Padre advised the students to focus on effective consumption of drinking water and also to spread the message“Save Water” to the society. In his speech, Shree Padre highlighted the need of Rain Water Harvesting to recharge the ground water and to solve the problem of drinking water during summer. Shree Padre has given a brief of his successful mission of Rain Harvesting completed at Kerala, Rajasthan and other States of North India especially in the drought affected areas. Shree Padre appreciated the Smart City model prepared by the 3rd year B.E Civil Engineering students and conveyed best wishes to all the students.

In his Presidential remarks, Dr. Shreeprakash B. advised the students to use water effectively and to focus on protection of water sources for the next generation.\Professor Shrinath Rao K delivered Vote of Thanks. Heads of various academic departments, faculty members, staff and students were present on this occasion. Ms. Sharanya R and Ms. Sharal Martis performed invocation. Mr. Praneeth Kotian and Ms. B S Yashwitha compered the inaugural function ofWWD 2016. On this occasion, Chief Guest Shree Padre distributed the prizes to the winners of Collage making, Best Slogan and Best Video competition organised by SRISTICA with theme“Save Water”. After the inaugural function, Shree Padre delivered a talk on“Rain Harvesting: How and When”.

afternoon session, Dr. Shri Hari, Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering, NITK Surathkal delivered technical talk on water issues. Representatives from Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India) Mangaluru were present for the technical talk.
